ヴェロキラプトルは小型の恐竜や爬虫類、さらには初期の哺乳類を食べていたと考えられています。

👀特徴（Feature）
・鋭いかぎ爪：後ろ足には大きく湾曲した「鎌形のかぎ爪」があり、獲物に致命的なダメージを与える武器として使用されていました。 （Sharp Claws: Velociraptors had large, curved, sickle-shaped claws on their hind feet, which they used as deadly weapons to inflict fatal damage on their prey.）
・長い尾：バランスを取るために使われていたと考えられていますが、細長くて硬直した尾は俊敏な動きを可能にしていたとのことです。 （Long Tail: It is believed that Velociraptors used their tails for balance, and the long, stiff structure of the tail helped them make quick and agile movements.）
・羽毛：今では羽毛があったという事実は間違いないとされています。鳥類との進化的につながるとても大事な証拠になっているようです。某有名な恐竜映画「ジュ○シッ○・ワ○ル○」ではまだ羽毛は生えてませんでしたね。 （Feathers: It is now widely accepted as a fact that Velociraptors had feathers. This serves as important evidence of their evolutionary connection to modern birds.In the famous dinosaur movie ‘Ju○a○si○ W○rl○,’ they still didn’t have feathers.）
・知能：脳が比較的大きく、知能が高かったと考えられています。 （Intelligence: Velociraptors had relatively large brains and are believed to have been highly intelligent.）
ヴェロキラプトルは知能が高いため、お互いが協力して群れを作って狩りをしていた可能性が高いという説がでているようですが、一方で単純に同じ場所に集まっていただけという説もでています。はたしてどちらなのか….ロマンが膨らみますよね😄
（Because Velociraptors are believed to have been highly intelligent, there is a theory that they cooperated and hunted in packs. However, there is also a theory that they simply gathered in the same area without actually working together. Which one is true… it’s fun to imagine, isn’t it? 😄）
🏃♀️走る速さ：推定走行速度（Running speed ：estimated running speed）
時速約40〜50キロメートルで走ることが出来たようです。それほどデカくない肉食恐竜にしては速い方ですかね。俊敏性でいえばピカイチといわれています。 （It is believed to have been able to run at speeds of about 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. For a relatively small carnivorous dinosaur, that’s quite fast. In terms of agility, it is said to be second to none.）
現代のスプリンターであるチーター（最速の陸上動物）は、時速100キロメートル以上で走れますが、短い時間しか走れません。体力的に言えばヴェロキラプトルの勝利です。ちなみに私たち人間は平均で時速10〜20キロメートル程度ですね。一瞬でヴェロキラプトルの餌食になりますわ…😅
（The modern sprinter, the cheetah (the fastest land animal), can run at speeds over 100 kilometers per hour, but only for a short time. In terms of endurance, Velociraptor would win. By the way, humans, on average, run at about 10–20 kilometers per hour. We’d be an easy meal for a Velociraptor in no time… 😅）
💡戦う恐竜の化石？（Fighting Dinosaurs Fossil？）
ちなみにヴェロキラプトルの化石に、他の恐竜と戦っている姿の有名な化石があります。1971年にモンゴルのゴビ砂漠で発見された、プロトケラトプスとの格闘場面が発掘されています。おそらく突然の砂嵐や火山灰の噴出にて生き埋めになったと予想されています。面白いですよね。

💡ヴェロキラプトルの名前の由来は？（What is the origin of the name Velociraptor?）
『ヴェロキラプトル ＝ 素早い泥棒』という意味のようです。これはヴェロキラプトルの俊敏性からそのような名前がついたようですね。
“Veloci-“（ラテン語: velox, velocis）
→ 意味：「すばやい」「速い」
“-raptor”（ラテン語: raptor）
→ 意味：「略奪者」「強奪者」「捕らえる者」「泥棒」
（Velociraptor” means “swift thief.” The name likely comes from the dinosaur’s agility and quick movements.）
その他の「～ラプトル」がつくドロマエオサウルス科の恐竜を紹介します。 （Let’s take a look at some other dromaeosaurs whose names end with ‘-raptor’.）
- ユタラプトル（Utahraptor） = ユタ州の泥棒 （Utah thief）
- ダコタラプトル（Dakotaraptor） = ダゴタ州の泥棒 （Dakota thief）

アキロラプトル（Achillobator）だけ、ラテン語で「raptor」ではなく「bator」と表現されるらしいです。なのでAchillobator の語源は、「Achilles（アキレス）」＋「bator（バトル／戦士）」となります。Achillesはギリシャ神話の英雄アキレスのこと。要はとても強い恐竜だという意味を表しているようですね。 （Apparently, only Achillobator uses “bator” instead of the Latin “raptor” in its name. The name Achillobator comes from “Achilles” (the Greek mythological hero) and “bator,” which means “warrior” or “fighter.” So, the name suggests that it was a very powerful dinosaur.）
💡ヴェロキラプトルはしつけることが出来るか？（Can Velociraptors be trained?）
※ただの予測ですので、本当のところはわからないです。私の想像の中の世界です。 （It’s just a prediction, so I don’t really know. It is a world in my imagination.）
ヴェロキラプトルは某有名な恐竜映画「ジュ○シッ○・ワ○ル○」の中でしつけられているシーンがありました。本当のところはどうなのだろうか？勝手に興味しんしんです。
ただの私の想像ですからね😉 ヴェロキラプトルは知能は高いとされていますが、犬のように一定に社会性がなく、縄張り意識がとても強いようです。ということは人間に対して服従心や信頼感は得られないのではないかと思います。ですので某映画のようにしつけるのは難しいのではないか….💦 でも車じゃなくてヴェロキラプトルに乗って買い物や旅行する世界を創造するだけでなんかワクワクしてきますよね😁
（But this is just my imagination, of course. While Velociraptors are believed to have high intelligence, they apparently lack the social structure seen in animals like dogs and have a very strong territorial instinct. This suggests that they may not be able to develop a sense of obedience or trust toward humans. So, I think it would be difficult to train them, like in certain movies… However, just imagining a world where we ride Velociraptors instead of cars to go shopping or travel is enough to make me excited!）
